Next to burning our bras and getting the vote nothing has been more momentous, in terms of the Women’s Rights Movement, than this!   Its about time the fashion world has taken notice!  And notice they did when, this season, the “sneaker” became the “new heel.”  Even the major fashion houses have caught wind of the sneaker trend: Chanel, Dior, Valentino, and the likes have all come out with their version of the fashion sneaker.  Obviously when Beyoncé poetically stated: Who runs the world? Girls! –  the rest of the world followed suit!  Check out my favorite fashion moments below, Adidas included!!!

I wouldn’t exactly describe my style as conservative.  In fact, my rule of thumb has typically been: When in doubt, go shorter!  I’ve also rocked a plunging neckline like no one’s business!  Never at the same time of course (oh- except that one time in college), but then life happens and GASP- it’s parent-teacher conferences!!!  Putting an outfit together has always been so effortless for me so you can imagine how I felt for my very first parent-teacher conference, and I’m completely stumped with what this means in terms of wardrobe.  I mean, literally standing hours in my closet dumbfounded, baffled, and bemused.  That is until I had a major “lightbulb” moment and two words came to mind: Pearl Necklace!

Lucky for me my parents had gifted me a 16 inch Elsa Peretti strand from Tiffany’s as a graduation present from college.  All I had to do was find that signature blue, velvety pouch and it was on like Donkey Kong!  The power of pearls is in one word: Profound!  Maybe the always elegant and iconic Jackie Kennedy Onassis had a major point went she stated, “Pearls are always appropriate!” At my children’s school they begin each new school year with a parent-teacher conference, which I love.  So this week when it was time to meet my daughter’s teachers for the first time all it took was a classic pearl necklace to turn my jeans and ivory top into the quintessential “meet the teacher” ensemble! So do yourself a favor and get yourself a strand (or three) STAT!!! You’ll be so happy you did!!

When Miami IT girl Erin Newberg shows up at your casa to play “dress-up” let’s just say it’s a PARTY!!! The best way to describe it is what her mother said the first time I met her (in Neiman’s naturally), “With Erin you get dinner and a show!” And show I did!!! From talking about her hottie Mexican boyfriend to yachting (or canoeing as she calls it), to bonding over all things fashion from her vintage Kelly, her love of Chanel (who doesn’t), her good luck Van Cleef earrings, and the likes, and discussing our newest business ventures!!!

What happened next- getting down to our undies and trying on our favorite pieces from the Dara Michelle Style collection. On a side note- this girl has the best boobs ever!!! #justsayin You know the kind that doesn’t even need a bra. In fact, that reminds me of the first time I met Erin and her nipples! We were about to go on live TV when the cameraman, in a panic, announced that her nipples would not fly according to network standards. (As only Erin could- she showed up to do a live television segment in a white borderline, sheer button down and no bra.) Next, the people at NBC had to race against the clock and get this nipple problem under control- stat. The solution: Band Aids.  Needless to say problem solved, but not before giving the folks at NBC the best day of their lives!!!

 I digress….

So where were we…. oh yes, playing dress-up!!!  Erin looked so chic in the collection that our “girl time” ended with an impromptu photo shoot- obviously!!! Check out all the fun below!!!

This week we said goodbye to one of the world’s most legendary fashion designers, Oscar de la Renta.  He spent half a century putting high society in haute couture. Among them – every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy and Hollywood starlets Amy Adams, Sara Jessica Parker and Jessica Alba (to name a few) and, most recently, George Clooney’s bride Amal Alamuddin.

“The fashion business says goodbye to a mentor, a legend & an icon,” designer Kenneth Cole tweeted Monday night. “He defined a standard we can only aspire to.”

Today we remember how he lived- by making women feel beautiful in wearable art. Take a look at my favorite Oscar de la Renta pieces as we pay tribute to Oscar.

Amy Poehler

Love the comedic genius that is Amy Poehler but instead of laughs, jaws dropped when she stepped foot onto the red carpet in this totally sexy and chic black Stella McCartney number!!! Tailored to perfection this frock hugged Amy’s curves in all the right places!  Who knew the same girl who infamously rocked “mom jeans” on SNL could be so sexy!?

Naomi Watts

It looks like Jay Z isn’t the only one who prefers Tom Ford to “popping molly”!  Naomi Watts looked fierce in her metallic Tom Ford dress, which was the perfect hue against her sun-kissed skin and blonde hair. And can we talk about her body for 5 minutes!? Hard to believe this stunner is also a mom of 2 little boys! The dress fit her body impeccably and was styled to perfection with a gold chunky necklace and sleek bob!!! #idie

Paula Patton

Poor Paula Patton (well not really she does get to sleep with Robin Thicke) got so much negative feedback for her white Stephane Rolland gown but I completely beg to differ!! The media had a field day picking apart this dress and, believe it or not, it even landed Paula on a few “worst dressed” lists.  Not sure what all the flack was about but I thought the dress was totally chic, loved how it was styled (with a flawless bob, matching shoes, and beautiful chandelier earrings), and although some in the media felt like the oversized ruffle was reminiscent of a Kleenex I thought it was completely elegant!  Not to worry Paula I got your back!!!

Kelly Osborne

Who knew a break-up could look so good? Kelly Osborne, who recently split with fiancé Matthew Mosshart, looked so incredibly glamorous in her black Escada dress with gold floral detailing.  The dress fit perfectly and accentuated her curves in all the right places.  Looks like single life is treating Kelly really well!  I bet that ex-fiancé of hers is crying a river!!! P.S. Leave it to Kelly to make lavender hair look so chic!

Olivia Wilde

If I looked as hot as Olivia Wilde pregnant than I’d just keep having babies until I got my own TLC show!  (Think 19 Kids and Counting meets The Real Housewives).  Thank the lord my last pregnancy was totally so 4 years ago because if I had to be preggers alongside Olivia Wilde, I’d have to drown my sorrows away in Häagen-Dazs!!! Wilde’s emerald sequin sheath by Gucci was nothing short of perfection.  I love how the dress was so over-the-top glam yet she somehow made it look so effortlessly cool with loose waves, natural makeup, minimal jewelry, and of course that pregnancy glow!  The best accessory by far: That adorable baby bump!

Kate Beckinsale

Kate. Beckinsale. Is. hot. That is all. #girlcrush
(And her dress by Zuhair Murad isn’t that bad either.)

I don’t usually associate ankle boots with fancy frocks –but thanks to the fashion genius of Giuseppe Zanotti and Saint Laurent (to say the least) I’m beginning to rethink this idea.  Although stilettos will always have a special place in my heart, this season they no longer will be the “go-to” when it comes to choosing shoes for a swanky event.  For next month’s Art Basel (the world’s premier international art show for modern and contemporary works, taking place each December in Miami – hence lots of fabulous events) why not rock a mini dress with some sexy Giuseppe ankle boots hashtag: I Die!!!  It’s about time my 160mm impossible to dance in Loubitins met their match!!!  A longtime signature of the “model-off-duty” wardrobe or the “throw on with a pair of jeans” essential the ankle boot (aka bootie) is quickly gaining ground at both red carpet premieres and fancier fashion events. So why do I love this look so much? Well first, the extra fabric and support that ankle boots provide make them more comfortable than the stiletto and second, the shoes offer a touch of toughness, which in turn gives a dressed-up look a cool edge you wouldn’t otherwise get from a pair of pumps.  Translation for my fellow New Yorkers: Think uptown dress with downtown footwear.  This must-try combo of fancy frocks and ankle boots were present all over fashion week too making them the ultimate fashion accessory this season.  Check out my favorite ankle boot looks below and don’t be surprised if your beloved stilettos collect a little dust this season!  Your feet are going to love you!!!

I’m a die-hard Louboutin fan like the next girl; obsessed with shoes and have always lived by the rule the higher the better!  True story: One of my best friends, who lived by the same creed, lost feeling in her pinkie toe permanently as a sacrifice of sorts for hot, high shoes!  I actually asked her the other day if given the opportunity would she have done things differently her answer: Absolutely not!!!  It wasn’t until last month one night at LIV, a super hot night club in Miami, (yes believe it or not this mommy of two still appreciates a dancing on tables kind of night) where my feet were in agony so I had no choice but to part from my 160mm Louboutins and although my shoes were safely hidden in a drawer under the table, I was a little disappointed that my gorgeous shoes had to remain under wraps for the duration of the night.  I mean what’s the point of having over-the-top, glamorous kicks if you can’t even share their beauty with the world.  Furthermore, my totally chic ensemble had now been altered since it now lacked shoes.  That’s like eating plain vanilla ice-cream without any toppings (boring) and besides, dancing barefoot just doesn’t feel as sexy.

Maybe I’ve become a feminist in my old age but that’s when I decided that this rule (the higher the shoes the better) needed a serious amendment!!!  I decided that “going out” shoes must be placed into two categories.  There would be dinner shoes  (This is where my 160mm Louboutins would live) defined by shoes that you wear to simply walk through a restaurant, to your table, and then thankfully sit down admiring their beauty from your cushy seat.  After dinner you walk back through the restaurant, into your car (which was valeted), and return home period.  Then there are dinner and dancing shoes.  Defined by shoes that are just as sexy yet must be COMFOTABLE enough to dance in all night.  Every girl must own both.  Your feet will thank you!  If only I would have thought of this in college my best friend may still have feeling in her littlest toe.  Let’s not sacrifice any more tootsies for the sake of hot shoes.  Check out some of my favorite gorgeous yet comfy shoes, and some tips on what to look for when searching for that dancing shoe below!!!

Styles with a slight platform tend to be more comfortable as they minimize the angle and pressure on the ball of the foot making these Jimmy Choos a staple in every girl’s closet!

The slightly rounded tip on these sparkly Kate Spade dreams
provide extra room for your tooties making them extra comfortable!

By enclosing the instep these booties have an added benefit of preventing the feet from sliding forward which can be very painful. Another added bonus the chic lace detail!

Now that the school year is officially in full swing, we can finally celebrate a major “check” on our to-do list as far as our back-to-school shopping goes! Besides the routine crayons, glue sticks, and pencils, each year things get a little more complicated when it comes to deciding on the backpack.  And I totally get it since this is one of the only forms of self-expression my uniform wearing little one gets to employ!!!  We settled on an adorable bubblegum pink and turquoise tie-dye one with bedazzled hearts on the front (obviously).  And just as I was about to relax (as in sit down for 30 seconds) I’m reliving the back-to-school shopping experience once again except, this time around, I’ve escaped the walls of target and entered the trés chic walls of Neiman Marcus!!! So what does Neiman’s have in common with back-to-school shopping?  This season, backpacks aren’t just for back-to-school anymore.  Every top designer from Louis Vuitton to Chanel are making their own interpretation leaving the backpack on every fashion “it” girl’s must-have list. From bags that are made of luxurious leather to those that are fashionable in design and shape, these runway worthy backpacks scream glamour!!!  Check out my favorites below!!!

Remember the 90’s as a newly pierced teenager when grunge bands ruled the radio and grunge style was all the rage??? Well this fall, the 90’s are back making plaid (a staple in every grunge look) a must-have this season!!!  However, this time around, your go–to plaid has become a little more polished and refined updating the old school grunge look we remember to a more modern “grunge gone glam!!!”  Check out my favorite plaid looks below!!! And don’t be surprised if your new found grunge-esq ensemble inspires you to revisit your favorite tracks from Nirvana, Hole, Pearl Jam (and the likes) minus the boyfriend drama, algebra, and changing for P.E. (yuck)!!!
