Next to burning our bras and getting the vote nothing has been more momentous, in terms of the Women’s Rights Movement, than this!   Its about time the fashion world has taken notice!  And notice they did when, this season, the “sneaker” became the “new heel.”  Even the major fashion houses have caught wind of the sneaker trend: Chanel, Dior, Valentino, and the likes have all come out with their version of the fashion sneaker.  Obviously when Beyoncé poetically stated: Who runs the world? Girls! –  the rest of the world followed suit!  Check out my favorite fashion moments below, Adidas included!!!

If you’re like me, then the first thing you think about when seeing anything that ties is that time you tried to teach your precious cuties, with those little hands, how to tie their own shoes for the very first time.  Even my “mommy friends” will attest that I have more patience than most, but after repeating “make two bunny ears and cross them over like an X” for what felt like an eternity even the most patient of us would soon want to lose their sh&t!  All I could say is thank g-d for Velcro!!!

So one can imagine how I felt the first time I saw these pieces with lace-up details reminiscent of the traumatic, teach your kids how to tie their own shoes, experience.  However, after a second look, I had magically forgotten all about how stressful this event was (fashion does that to me often) so much so that these tied-up pieces soon became my newest obsession. Imagine that!

So the other day I was going through my Instagram feed and I came across this:

    image

Don’t you just love how a single IG post has a way of describing an entire emotional experience in a simple worded sentence plus a few #hastags and an emoji or two!? I mean this exact notion was my college roommates and my mantra for years! When the 4 of us lived together in one house with 4 different closets and 4 different shoe collections – one could only imagine the fun we use to have getting ready which, besides for the very rare occasion, was always a better party than being out #justsayin!!!

Now almost 14 years later (don’t tell anyone I’ve been out of college for that long) the same holds true today. Taking on the role as wife and mother- let’s just say the moments I have to myself are few and far between.  Sometimes, I can’t even change my tampon without someone barging in!!!  So when Saturday night comes along and our beloved babysitter takes over and relieves me from mommy duties and my husband takes that time to put his head down for some R&R, I make my own little party (for one) in my closet!!!  That one hour of “me” time is something I look forward to all week.  As I light my favorite Jo Malone candles, get my Beyoncé on, sip some bubbly, and decide between the Valentino Rock-Stud or the classic Manolo, I get taken back to those college days when getting ready was just as much fun as being out!!!

So for those of you who take the “getting ready” part as a chore, this post is dedicated to you.  Instead, take this time and make it a party!   Trust me, it will soon become your favorite part of the night!!!

I wouldn’t exactly describe my style as conservative.  In fact, my rule of thumb has typically been: When in doubt, go shorter!  I’ve also rocked a plunging neckline like no one’s business!  Never at the same time of course (oh- except that one time in college), but then life happens and GASP- it’s parent-teacher conferences!!!  Putting an outfit together has always been so effortless for me so you can imagine how I felt for my very first parent-teacher conference, and I’m completely stumped with what this means in terms of wardrobe.  I mean, literally standing hours in my closet dumbfounded, baffled, and bemused.  That is until I had a major “lightbulb” moment and two words came to mind: Pearl Necklace!

Lucky for me my parents had gifted me a 16 inch Elsa Peretti strand from Tiffany’s as a graduation present from college.  All I had to do was find that signature blue, velvety pouch and it was on like Donkey Kong!  The power of pearls is in one word: Profound!  Maybe the always elegant and iconic Jackie Kennedy Onassis had a major point went she stated, “Pearls are always appropriate!” At my children’s school they begin each new school year with a parent-teacher conference, which I love.  So this week when it was time to meet my daughter’s teachers for the first time all it took was a classic pearl necklace to turn my jeans and ivory top into the quintessential “meet the teacher” ensemble! So do yourself a favor and get yourself a strand (or three) STAT!!! You’ll be so happy you did!!

image     Not sure what’s been going down at day camp lately, but my daughters have been coming home with the sickest bohemian influenced braids that you ever did see! I mean it’s as if they have their very own “glam-squads” set up in between canoeing and arts and crafts. Don’t get me wrong- I’m as excited as they are about their gorgeous “dos”!  It just seems a little preposterous that while I’m rocking the aisles of target in my 10th attempt of a chic “messy bun” they get home after a full day of camp (I promise I don’t even send them with a hairbrush) looking like they’re ready for a Vogue photo shoot!  So this weekend when it’s time to get ready for “date-night” I’m giving my typical blowout a rest, and opting for some serious boho glam inspired by the two little people I love the most in the whole world- my girls!!! Check out some more of my favorite looks below!

If you’re like me, then you went crazy for plaid this fall/winter while reminiscing over your favorite 90’s grunge band, only this time around, you may have opted to pair your vintage flannel with a coveted pair of Valentino’s and Chanel jumbo bag!!! Us fashion people have to take advantage when something this comfortable and nostalgic makes a come back. So, if you’re just not quite ready to put your beloved plaids in the back of your closet now that summer is creeping don’t fret! Check out how you can still rock your favorite tops all season long! Summer 90’s style: BRING IT ON!

Was it me or did someone send around a- you must wear sheer and look naked- memo to the attendees of the Vanity Fair after party!?  I mean, seriously, I get the whole concept of letting your hair down and showing a little more skin now that all of the award show stuff was over (after all isn’t that what after party’s are for) but this…. this takes it to a whole other level, and not in a good way!

Let’s move on- shall we?  So the Oscars and after party’s…   obviously my favorite part: The fashion!!!  As expected, the dresses were nothing short of perfection (minus a few naked people)!!!  Let’s just say I got my fashion “fix” for the next few days. The only problem I faced was whittling this list down to my favorites.  Even so, (after 48 hours and a few grandé soy lattés later) I was finally able to digest it all and, below, I break it down!

Last night while the whole house was sleeping I stayed up with my favorite award show: The Grammy’s!!! What makes this one of my favorite shows- the fashion obviously!!!  This is the red carpet where everyone gets a little more playful, taking a little more risks leaving us fashion obsessed peeps busting at the seems in anticipation!  This was the show after all where just over a year ago Beyoncé killed it with a leotard and wet hair in her performance of “Drunk In Love” and Britney Spears infamously stripped down to a nude, crystal embellished two-piece in her 2000 performance only to outdo herself a year later draped in a live snake when she sang “I’m a Slave 4 U”!  Needless to say this year’s fashion did not disappoint! Check out my picks for best dressed at Grammy’s 2015 below!

The real reason why I watch the Golden globes awards?  For the fashion of course! The 2015 Golden Globes, thankfully, did not disappoint and was filled with amazing fashion moments.  Here’s my list of favorites!

The award for BEST JEWELS goes to:

Naomi Watts in Bvlgari.  The girl could have walked out in a garbage bag and, in this serpent necklace, would still have been the most glamorous girl in the room.

image

The award for BEST HANDBAG goes to:

Kelly Osborne in a paparazzi worthy, blinged-out camera clutch.

image

The award for BEST MAKE-UP goes to:

The flawless Katie Holmes.  With her smokey sultry eyes, flawless skin and nude lip her make-up summed up in one word: Perfection.

image

The award for CUTEST and MOST FASHIONABLE COUPLE goes to:

John Legend and his model wife, Chrissy Teigen.

image

image

It looks like a few people got the red dress memo for the Golden Globes including Heidi Klum, Taylor Schilling, and Allison Williams to name a few.

The award for BEST RED goes to:

Rita Ora in Zac Posen with matching ruby lips.

image

The award for BEST SURPRISE APPEARANCE goes to:

Gwyneth Paltrow in Michael Kors.  Although Gwyneth was a no-show on the red carpet, she certainly made up for it as a presenter in her bubble gum pink dress with an over-the-top sexy, plunging neckline!

image

The award for BEST OVER-ALL LOOK goes to:

Giuliana Rancic in a blush pink Maria Lucia Hohan dress.  It appears that Giuliana’s entire glam squad was on point this evening.  Her entire look was styled to perfection from hair to make-up, handbag, shoes and jewelry! My favorite part of the dress- the lace detail at the bust and origami side panels making this mermaid silhouette truly unique and special.

See you at the next red carpet!

I realize I’m not getting any sympathy from anyone north of Palm Beach but, as far as I’m concerned, it’s officially “cold” in Miami.  I usually welcome this change because it means I get to “shop” in the chunky sweater and boots section of my closet! Typically this section has got me covered on days as such, but this morning I woke up to a not only cold day but a rainy one as well.  And that’s when it happened…. a moment of truth that all fashionistas have at some point when they’re alone in their closet.  The dreaded: I have nothing to wear!!!  Obviously I’m good with umbrellas (this is Miami) so I finally caught my breathe after realizing my fav leather motorcycle jacket (the only thing that would keep me warm) wasn’t going to get ruined.  Finally, I came to terms with the fact that there was a huge gap in my closet in regards to a necessary wardrobe staple.  What I was missing was a seriously major, fabulous trench coat!!!  Arriving at Burberry (the quintessential trench coat haven) I realized this moment was truly a fashion blessing in disguise!  Don’t you just love happy endings!?  Check out my favorite trench coat looks below.
