Early on in my styling career meaning three year-old me and a trunk full of Barbies (my first clients) I always remember choosing ensembles for them based on what I perceived to be the “fashion rules”.  As I later developed my own sense of style and my own interpretation of trends I realized that sometimes the rules are: There are no rules!!!  Axioms like, you can’t wear white after Labor Day or your shoes and bag have to match (actually I think that one was my mom’s) were waiting to be challenged.  I remember the first time I rocked a white knit sweater in January and how liberating it felt.  Well if you love to break all the rules (as in “all” I mean the fashion one’s) like me than you are going to love this head-to-toe print trend seen all over the 2013 spring/summer runways.  Catwalks exploded in vibrant and attention grabbing tribal, geometric, digitalized, mirrored, neon and tropical prints. Dolce & Gabbana, Rabecca Minkoff and Mary Katrantzou were just a few of the designers who fueled the print madness making these over-the-top prints this season’s must haves!!!  Check out the pics below for some of my favorites!

Are you lusting for Lucite?  Well I am, Clearly!   Prada, Chanel, and Gucci were just a few of the fashion houses that featured Lucite accessories on their spring/summer 2013 runways.  From bags, to shoes,  jewelry and even sunnies, Lucite was everywhere!!!  What I love about Lucite the most is that it can make a piece look both modern and vintage at the same time.  I also love how it can go with everything and how truly versatile it can be. For example, a Charlotte Olympia clutch can be worn casual with jeans and a t-shirt or can totally hold its own next to a couture ensemble for evening. Either way, Lucite is très chic and makes a huge statement when rocked. Cinderella’s fairy g-dmother definitely knew a thing or two about fashion when she gave her those awesome clear stilettos to complete her princess look!!! You’ll have just as magical of a moment in Lucite too! Promise!!!

It was last week when I had a major shopping emergency. I was supposed to attend a luncheon for the Young Society Of Hope and Love for the Diabetes Research Institute the following day at the St. Regis in Bal Harbor. The theme was “Haute Tea.” Which meant a plethora of your finest teas, oodles of little tea sandwiches, overflowing beautiful blooms, gorgeous china and linens, and of course a fabulous hat which, I hadn’t gotten a chance to get. What’s a mom to do with only an hour before dinner, bath, and bed? Well, take the girls and get my shop on immediately, of course!!! I threw them in to the car and we ran to the mall (only 6 minutes from my house thank g-d). On the way I thought about my plan of attack and decided on Nordstrom since a) I absolutely love their accessory department and b) I felt like it would give me the most options in the shortest amount of time. Also (just an fyi) the kid’s section is right next to accessories so if there was any sign of a tantrum on the horizon, I could always bribe my kids with a balloon (works every time). We got out of the car and headed right to accessories. Within minutes I turn around and my girls have turned, what was suppose to be, a “quickie” shopping trip into an all out fashion production (obviously). With two huge bins of accessories to play with right at their fingertips the aisle at Nordstrom turned into a glamorous runway! I have to thank my girls for always reminding me that life is a gift and to enjoy each moment. And of course there’s always time for a fashion show!!!  Click below to watch!

I must confess that although I was always a lover of fashion and my earliest childhood memories all include playing dress-up or have some fashion component to them when I became a mother myself for the first time, I gave up fashion for motherhood basically wearing pajamas for the first three months of my daughter’s life and maybe shaving my legs once.  As I got out behind the haze of bottles, diapers, and sleepless nights I started to feel like myself again and it all began with a purchase of a new dress and some Jimmy Choos for our first official date night (baby not included).  From that moment I was back!!!  After, I would take an extra 15 minutes for myself each day, accessorizing, applying lip-gloss and shaving!!!  With my new and fashionable lease on life I actually noticed that I was a better wife, more engaged with my little girl, and overall happier!!!  I thought being a good mother meant you no longer could take time for yourself when in fact, quite the contrary.  Happy mommy, happy family became my new mantra!!!  This photo shoot with the amazing and über talented photographer Courtney Ortiz celebrates motherhood, wifeyhood, and fashion and how you can be amazing at all (and do it in stilettos)!!! Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we have!!!
